We supply AEDs and consumablesThe Charity's focus is to provide courses to educate our local communities and also raise money so that we can fund and place publicly accessible AEDs in rural communities within the Hawke's Bay.
We also raise funds to buy essential training equipment by selling:
Click on this button to visit our Shop Window Together with donations, this helps raise money to fund additional training equipment and consumables.
The New Zealand Resuscitation Council strongly recommends that people learn CPR and first aid - this really is a basic life skill. To do that properly it is important that training takes place using training aids that are as realistic as possible. Please donate so we can purchase essential CPR manikins, training AEDs, First Aid training consumables and other teaching aids. We want to keep these courses FREE so everyone can save a life. |
raising funds to install publicly accessible AED unitsWith more than 20% of all Cardiac Arrests happening in public areas we want to make sure there's an AED within reach when it's needed.
Early defibrillation of someone in cardiac arrest makes a huge difference to the patient's outcome. A person who has a cardiac arrest needs immediate CPR together with rapid application of an AED. They will have the best chance of survival if bystanders are able to take immediate action, and that means getting the AED in use before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Scroll down to find out just how important an AED is. CPR is only half the story... If you wish to donate an AED to a public area in your community, please get in touch. |

how to find the nearest aed
"AED Locations" is a community-orientated volunteer project designed to make people aware of how many AEDs (automated external defibrillators) there are in New Zealand and pinpoints them on a map.
Don't forget to register your company's AED on the website. You can download the App to your phone from the "AED Locations" website : aedlocations.co.nz or Google Playstore This is a really useful tool - projects like this are encouraged by the Medics On Scene Training Trust. |
The GoodSAM APP
Launched in April 2018 in New Zealand, GoodSAM aims to increase a person's chances of surviving a cardiac arrest by alerting CPR-trained members of the public to emergencies nearby.
GoodSAM, which stands for "Good Smartphone Activated Medics", uses GPS to allow Emergency Call takers to locate and alert the nearest three bystanders to someone having a cardiac arrest, in the hope they might be able to provide help until an ambulance arrives. Chances of surviving a SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) are greatly increased with the quick actions of bystanders initiating help, immediately calling 111. If a registered "responder" is close by then CPR can be initiated and an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) located, applied and used on the patient. If this is done prior to an emergency ambulance crew arriving the patient's chance of walking out of hospital with everything functioning as it should is greatly increased. |
GoodSAM has by far the largest AED Registry worldwide. Goodsam has over 30,000 AEDs logged, and because they syncronise them with the ambulance services, the system is always up-to-date. This will ensure the nearest AED can be located.
By alerting responders to an emergency, GoodSAM connects those in need with those who have the skills to provide critical help and help save a life. The more people who download the app, the more coverage we will achieve across New Zealand and the more likely we are to improve outcomes from cardiac arrest. |
